gawd I hated these - I was born in 69 ... so this should hve been my 'ride' but the 70 had much better style. Hated the hood bulges, the front girl the damn impossible slanted rear blinkers. These were easy and cheap to find when I was in high school - while the 70 was inobtainium ... so I ended up with one of these f - I hated it, big azz battle boat - traded it and cash for a 68 notchback barracuda .... happier all around. I do not miss that car; I do miss the 'cuda'

This mondaine Frua designed beauty was manufactured just a few kilometers from where I was born in Lower Bavaria. Then a small, deeply rooted agricultural region of Bavaria. Somehow like the original Lamborghini works in St. Agatha just with more viscous bloods. Or how James Cagney once said, 'scented like all the lilacs in the Lower Bavaria.'. I've never heard of a Del Rio. Very cool and the sliding rear side windows are a great feature. Those sliding rear windows give you easier access to grab something in the rear, or to slide in a few boards or fishing rods etc. Wagons are so underestimated today. Car companies really need to bring back the full sized wagons, if people only knew how practical they are.

Ill never forget driving my 1970 Olds 442 on the second Hot Rod Power Tour on the last leg from Chicago to Mt Clemens, Mi. just north east of Detroit. In middle of nowhere michigan on i-94 im cruising my 4.30 rear gears in right lane when Nick Scavo with the black 1965 Impala that ran 8s back then in the mid 90s with nitrous come up next to me in left lane. He paced me and we waved then hollered thru the windows while the passenger who i believe was Chuck Samuels had his laptop going on. Remember this was around 1994 i believe. They were tweaking the tune as they blew past me after our little talk, i was doing about 70mph, even with the 4.30 gears. I know for sure my rpms at cruising speed were 3600/3700. They had a gear vendors overdrive so that 540 Chevrolet big block was probably spinning about 2900rpm with the tall 29.5 tires they had on. Good times! One of my favorite features of that black 1965 imp was the fact that he fabricated a way to run a COLUMN SHIFT on that car! It had all the electronics and things of that time to help it go ridiculously fast for back then, but had a column shift. It was CO2 air shifted in race mode. I had/still have a turbo action cheetah floor shifter which is smooth as butter to this day. Wish that same car was still out there today doing stuff it wasn't supposed to do, even back then!

I picked up a complete less engine and transmission in white and a blue interior with a 289 4 speed under a console. The only difference with mine is it was built 3 months after the cut off month/build date so it is a 65 and not a 64 1/2. It needs a total restoration but i paid 100.00 Canadian with a title in my hand. Looking forward to restoring it because parts are so cheap compared to other cars because every body has something for sale to fix or replace every part you need to drive a nice one just like this 64 1/2 in red and tan. It will look like a 289 but it will be a 302 C.I. and a modern 5 speed upgrade instead of a 4 speed. Debating if i will put blue stripes on it a la fake Shelby look since it will have the upgraded power as well when i have finished my 440 fool injected 6 BBL stoker manual transmission Cuda in progress. Mo money spent up front and turn key has it's perks i admit.

Sounds a lot like my big block ‘72 C10 which will run.....if this has a proper tune it will too.... Price?

My dad had a 63 same color and very clean in 1969. Of course being 16 years old, I rolled it going 60mph around a corner on a city street. Should have been going 15 or 20. Young and stupid, minor injuries. Sold it to a guy who pulled the body and put a fiberglass dune buggy body on it. Had to pay my dad back the $600 he paid for it 6 months earlier.

We had a blue one with a fabric sunroof (last year), a Blaupunkt radio and an all synchro transmission (first year). Cool car.

When I was 17 I got the word that my grandmother was coming to visit us from Oregon in her new car. I asked what kind of car she bought. My mom said an Oldsmobile. Yeah, a 4 door old grandma Oldsmobile I thought. She had always let me drive her previous car, a 62 4 door Plymouth. I wasn't excited. The day of her arrival I looked outside to see her pull up in a new 68 442! Redline ties, the works. Hey grandma, can I drive your new car?

I'd like it better in white or cream color. Beautiful car, though. I had a '67 Pontiac Catalina when I was in college in the late '80s. 400 V-8. Wasn't a real muscle car, but it had a beautiful sound to it.
